NASHVILLE, Tenn. -No. 19 Trevecca (21-9) defeated Lyon College (17-13) in the Quarterfinal round of the TranSouth Tournament 65-55 on Wednesday night.

The victory was Trevecca head coach Gary Van Atta's 400th as a 4-year college coach.

Trevecca opened the game with a 7-3 lead, but the Pipers went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. Neither team scored again until Trevecca's Rachel Raby tied the game at nine with 11:08 on the first half clock. Neither team could establish more than a 4-point lead the rest of the half. Trevecca led 28-25 at the break.

The second half saw much of the same until Trevecca took their largest lead of the game (35-30) with 14:53 remaining. Trevecca held a 36-31 lead with 13:47 left and the Pipers made a run for the lead. With 9:47 remaining Debbie Onukwube hit a basket in the paint that gave the Pipers the lead at 41-40. The basket capped a 10-4 run.

The Trojans revived thier offensive effort and pulled ahead 49-41 with 6:47 to go. Trevecca's lead would remain near double figures the rest of the way, the final score was 65-55 in favor of the Trojans.

Christian Gibson led Trevecca with 22 points while Abby Lawson scored 11. Lawson led the team with nine rebounds and four assists. London Elie also had seven rebounds. K.K. Hodges led Lyon with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Laura Ramsey also had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

As a team Trevecca shot 47.7% (21-44) from the field, 40% (4-10) from 3-point range, and 56% (19-34) from the foul line. Lyon had the rebounding edge 46-37

Trevecca advances to the TranSouth Semifinals and will play at NAIA No. 1 Union University (30-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
