NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Trojans softball team (8-0) swept a pair of games from Bethel University (1-3) on Thursday, coming from behind to win the opener 8-5, and then taking the nightcap 8-0 in six innings.
Riley Mashburn (4-0) got the win in the opener, giving up five runs--four of them earned--on eight hits,
while striking out four and walking two in a seven-inning complete game. The sophomore righthander also contributed three hits and three runs batted in to pace a 13-hit Trojan attack. Megan Hemmingsen, Breanna Zeis, and Melinda Patterson all added two hits apiece, while Kelsey Lantrip smacked her team-leading fourth home run of the season, a 2-run shot in the fourth inning.
In Game 2, Lauren Baker (4-0) gave up only three hits in six innings of work, striking out eight batters while walking only one, to lead the Trojans to the sweep. Junior second baseman Anais Puertas led the offense, going 4-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Puertas smacked three doubles and her first home run of the season, and Kelsey Lantrip went 3-3 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
The Trojans travel to Covenant College (0-8) for a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game gets underway at noon.
