NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca (10-5), receiving votes for the preseason NAIA Baseball Top 25, completed a sweep of Pikeville College (1-9) with two wins on Saturday. Trevecca won the first game 11-1 and 14-4 in the second. The Trojans have won ten of their last eleven games.
In game one the Trojans scored two runs in the first inning and another in the second inning. Pikeville scored a run in the top of the third and the Trojans sealed the win with three in their half of the third inning. The Trojans scored two more in the fourth and three in the sixth to force the 10-run rule into effect with an 11-1 decision.
Kyle Pfirrman (2-1) picked up the win with five innings of work. Pfirrman allowed two hits, a run, and a walk while striking out eight. Codi Webb pitched a perfect inning to complete the victory. TNU had 13 hits and no errors while Pikeville had just two hits and had two errors.
Brad Gooch was 2-4 with four runs scored, a walk, a double, and two stolen bases. Chad Reynolds was 2-4 with a run scored, four RBI, and two doubles.
In game two Trevecca struck early again with four runs in the first. Pikeville scored a run in the top of the second, but Trevecca extended the lead to 6-1 with two runs in the third. The Tigers tallied two runs in the fourth for a 6-3 TNU lead. Trevecca opened the flood gates with six runs in the fourth. Pikeville added a run in the fifth, but Trevecca forced the 10-run rule in their half of the fifth with two runs.
Michael Son (2-0) earned the win on the mound with four innings of work. Son allowed three hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out three Tigers. Jeff Hughes pitched the fifth allowing three hits and a run. Trevecca had 11 hits and two errors while Pikeville had six hits and four errors.
Brad Gooch had another productive game going 1-3 with a walk, two runs scored, two RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Edwin Borbon was 2-2 with two runs, an RBI, a double, a triple, and two stolen bases. Trey Morrison was 2-3 with three runs scored, three RBI, and a walk. Chad Reynolds was 2-3 with a run scored, and two RBI. Bret Grizzard was 1-3 with a triple and three RBI.
Trevecca will spend Spring Break in Florida. TNU faces Webber International (12-7) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. On Thursday, March 11 Trevecca will play the first of four games with No. 7 Embry-Riddle (16-5) at 5 p.m. On Friday Trevecca will play Embry-Riddle in a double header starting at 4 p.m. and complete the series on saturday the 13 at Noon. The next home game will be on Tuesday, March 17 when No. 11 Tennessee Wesleyan (14-3) at 2 p.m.
