DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Trevecca (13-7) wrapped up its Spring Break trip to Florida by splitting a
doubleheader with NAIA #7 Embry-Riddle (19-7) on Saturday, winning the opener 3-2 and losing the finale, 7-2. The Trojans split the four-game series with the Hawks, and ended up 3-2 overall on the
road trip.
The Trojans scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning, on RBI singles by Matt Tidwell and
Kyle Pfirrman and a passed ball by EARU catcher Manny Reyes, and held on for the win despite giving
up two unearned in the seventh inning. The Trojans managed only six hits for the game, but made the
most of their opportunities, while Trojan hurlers Michael Son and Jerry Young held the Hawks to just
five hits and those two unearned runs.
Son (3-0) pitched six innings for the win, giving up five hits and both runs, with seven strikeouts and
no walks. Jerry Young pitched the final inning for his second save. Tucker Jensen (1-2) took the loss
for EARU.
In game two, Chad Reynolds' two-run blast in the top of the fourth inning, his second of the season, gave
the Trojans a 2-1 lead, but that lead was short-lived. The Hawks scored six runs in the bottom of the inning, keyed by leftfielder Aaron Glaum's 2-run double and third baseman Steve Sabins' 3-run triple. That was all the offense EARU starter Justin Zinkovich (3-2) would need. The senior lefthander was dominant, striking out 14 Trojan batters in a seven-inning complete game, giving up two runs on four hits, with just two walks. Caleb Longshore (2-1) took the loss for Trevecca, giving up seven runs on four hits in four innings of work.
Trevecca now returns home Wednesday for a St. Patrick's Day matchup with NAIA #11 Tennessee Wesleyan at Jackson Field. Game time is 2 p.m.
