GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Trevecca Trojan softball team (15-1) suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 6-1 to NAIA #6 William Carey (11-3) Saturday afternoon at the Gulf Coast (Ala.) Invitational.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Lady Crusaders broke through with four runs off
Trojan starter Lauren Baker. The Trojans got one back in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by Breanna Zeis, but WCU answered with another run in the bottom of the inning to complete the scoring.

The Trojans managed just seven hits off Crusader starter Anna Ard (4-2), who struck out seven to get the win. Baker (7-1) gave up five runs, four of them earned, on six hits, with four strikeouts and three walks to get the loss.

The Trojans return home on Monday for a doubleheader with the University of Rio Grande (4-2) that gets underway at 3 p.m.
