The latest Lady Trojan diary from the 30th Annual NAIA Division 1 Women's Basketball National Championships... with Head Coach Gary Van Atta
WEDNESDAY (3/17) … following the
Lady Trojans upset of third-seeded William Woods.
"Last night
we had our picture taken with 13 other teams in our 147 Million Orphans
t-shirts at Oman Arena. Instead of purchasing NAIA t-shirts we purchased
the 147 Million Orphans shirts. Each t-shirt purchased feds an orphan
for one week. As of yesterday NAIA teams had helped feed 800."
147 Million Orphans Press Release
THURSDAY (3/18) ... The team is
enjoying their day off, but practiced at 8:00 a.m. in preparation for
our game with Campbellsville Friday at 9 a.m.
"Following practice
we visited West Tennessee Healthcare pediatric ward and played, painted
and made bracelets with three special children. After many laughs,
songs, knock-knock jokes and a flood gate of tears, our players helped
put smiles on faces of these children and their families."
"I am
more proud of these young women today than I am following any victory
they have ever given us on the basketball court. They are true Christian
athletes who genuinely made three sick children very happy today."
"Lunch
with our sponsor, Farm Bureau insurance, is next. The owners, Tony and
Kim Johnson, have a son named Taylor who graduated from Trevecca last
year. He was worship leader at several chapels last year at Trevecca."
"They
say they love Trevecca for what it has meant to them and their family
since Taylor began attending. Now their daughter Abby is hoping to
attend TNU next fall... Trevecca... Your influence never ceases to
amaze me!"
