PICKWICK DAM, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf team made a dramatic jump in round two of the 2010 TranSouth Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship. Trevecca, in fifth place after Monday's opening round with a 311, moved into third place overall with a 290 in Monday's second round. The 290 equaled the days best offering from any of the six teams. Cumberland, who lead after the Monday morning round, shot a 290 in round one.
The 54-hole tournament is being played at the Pickwick Landing State Park Golf Course. The Tennessee Trails course is playing to a par of 72 over 6483 yards. There are six teams and 30 golfers competing in the men's tournament.
Union University tops the standings after the first day of play at the 2010 TranSouth Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship. After 36 holes the Bulldogs posted a 298-292=590 and hold a one stroke lead over Cumberland University. Union University's Clay Mallard produced a three-under par 68-73=141 through the first 36 holes. Mallard holds a five stroke lead heading into the final round of play (18 holes) on Tuesday morning.
Cumberland University is second with a team total of 290-301=591. Trevecca Nazarene is third with a 311-290=601 and are followed by Bethel University at 306-318=624, Martin Methodist at 309-320=629, and Lyon College with a 348-335=683.
Austin Whitmere is in second with a 71-75=146. Joey Bradley (76-71) of Trevecca and Brett Barry (75-72) of Union are tied for third at 147. Tied for fifth are David Saldana (77-71) of Trevecca, Beau Brown (71-77), and Dustin Thomas (73-75) of Cumberland at 148.
The one-under 71 that Trevecca's Bradley and Saldana carded in Monday afternoon's second round tied for the lowest recorded score in round two.
The rest of the Trojan lineup includes Grant Moffett in 11th with a 76-75=151, Skip Jones with a 83-73=156, and William Potts with a 82-86=168.
The teams will complete play with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
