NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca women's basketball coach Gary Van Atta is pleased to announce the addition of Shateka Battle, a 5-foot-10 post player from Pearl-Cohn High School (Nashville, Tenn.) to the Trojans 2010-11 signing class. Battle played for Coach Katherine Bell in high school, where she averaged 15.1 points and 14 rebounds per game as a senior.

"Shateka is an unbelievable athlete," says Van Atta. "She could be an immediate impact type of player for us. She's strong and is a physical rebounder. She has great quickness and is an excellent competitor."

Battle won numerous awards during her high school career, including 2010 District 10-AA MVP, 2010 Regional MVP, All-District 2008-09, All-Tournament 2008-09, and Honorable Mention All-District 2006-07 and 2007-08. She also helped Pearl-Cohn win a state championship in track and field in 2007, and won state titles in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays in both 2006-07 and 2007-08. Battle also excelled in volleyball as well, winning numerous awards throughout her high school career.

"Shateka has been given a natural athletic talent, which she uses very efficiently," says Bell. "Shateka has desires to achieve academically as well as athletically. She possesses a hidden talent for leadership. She is a very coachable athlete and she has the potential to go very far in her academic and athletic endeavors."
