NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 19 and tournament top-seeded Trevecca (38-14) narrowlyl edged eighth-seeded Mid-Continent (14-29-1) in the tournament's third game of the opening round on Wednesday. Following the game Trevecca was awarded its fifth TranSouth Regular Season Championship banner.

Mashburn, who was First Team All-TranSouth last season as a frehsman, went the distance allowing four hits and two walks while striking out seven Cougars. Mashburn also provided her own offense going 1-1 with a walk, a run scored, and a double - the games only extra base hit.
The Cougars outhit Trevecca 4-3, but the Trojans put together the games lone scoring chance in the third. Trevecca's Mashburn contributed a sharp double to the left-centerfield fence in the third inning, and after advancing to third base on a sacrifice bunt, scored TNU's only run on an RBI ground ball hit by third baseman Megan Hemmingsen.
TNU left five runners on base, including runners on second and third bases in the second inning and two runners in the fourth inning, while MCU left seven runners on base, including runners on first and second bases in both the third and fourth innings, but MCU advanced no base runners as far as third base.
Trevecca, the conference's most potent offense were handled most of the day by Mid-Continent junior Maegan Wilson. Wilson (2-13) allowed just three hits and three walks and struck out two in six innings of work. TNU came into the game leading the TSAC in batting average, doubles, home runs and runs scored.
Victoria Spindor was 2-3 for MCU while Jackie Lloyd, MCU's first-ever All-TranSouth first team selection, extended her hitting streak to seven consecutive games with a single. She has hit safely in 30 of her last 33 games with 52 hits in her last 116 at-bats (.448).
Trevecca Nazarene advances in the championship bracket to meet fifth-seeded Cumberland University (20-28) on Thursday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m.
Mid-Continent plays an elimination game in the consolation bracket against fourth-seeded Freed-Hardeman (16-25), Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
In other first round TranSouth action today, second-seeded Union University (33-14) and third-seeded Martin Methodist College (41-11), ranked23rd in the nation, won their first-round games and meet Thursday, at 1:00 p.m. in the championship bracket, while sixth-seeded Lyon College (15-26) meets seventh-seeded Bethel University (20-26) in the other consolation bracket game Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
