NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 19 and top-seeded Trevecca (40-15) fell to sixth-seeded Bethel University (25-26) 3-1 in what will now be the first of two Championship Games. Trevecca now has as a 2-1 record in the double elimnination tournament while Bethel is now 4-1 in tournament play.

Neither team scored until Bethel's Shelby Cummings singled up the middle to lead off the Wildcats half of the fifth. Cummings moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Simmons then stole third. Katie Pacifici reached on a fielder's choice and Cummings scored for a 1-0 Wildcat lead.

With one out in the Wildcat sixth, Trevecca walked the first two Wildcat batters - Brittany Edmonds and Amanda Renfroe. A wild pitch moved the runners up to second and third. Cummings singled scoring Edmonds and moving Renfroe to third. Later, Cummings scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

Trevecca's lone run came on a seventh inning solo home run by Monica West. For West that is her team and conference leading 15th home run of the year. As a team, that is 65 on the year. Two short of the school record for team home runs in a season. The 2007 team hit 67 in 70 games.

Trevecca had three hits and no errors. Bethel had six hits and no errors.

Lauren Baker (19-8) came up short on getting her 20th win of the year. Baker allowed six hits, three runs, three walks, and struck out six.

Ashton Carnahan (6-4) was the winner allowing three hits, a run, no walks, and stuck out four.

The teams will play a second championship game, the winner will get the TranSouth's automatic bid to the NAIA National Touranment.

The win over Union earlier in the day on Friday gave Trevecca a 40-win season for just the fourth time in school history, all in the last five years.

Trevecca, the TranSouth regular season champion, will try to win their fourth TranSouth Tournament title in the last five years. Trevecca has five TranSouth regular season titles in the last six seasons.
