[Men's Golf] Trevecca/Williams Win G-MAC, Four Make All-Conference

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The Trevecca men's golf team won its first-ever conference championship at the 2013 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships. Trevecca shot a team total of 300–300-320=920 to win by 26 strokes over second place Cedarville University. Trevecca junior Stephen Williams topped the field as the Medalist with a three-over 69-72-78=219 to win by three strokes over teammate Tyler Phillips.

There were three teams and 15 individuals competing for the first-ever G-MAC Golf Championship at the Hermitage Golf Course – The Presidents Reserve. The course played to a par of 72 over 6935 yards. The 2013 Championships was a 54-hole event. The teams played 36-holes on Monday with another 18 on Tuesday morning.

This is the first team and individual conference championship for the Trevecca men's golf program. The team has finished second and have had runner-ups to the Medalist, but never first place.

Williams, Phillips, Martin, and Burnett all made the first-ever G-MAC All-Conference team.

Following Stephen Williams (69-72-78=219) for Trevecca were Tyler Phillips (74-73-75=222), Aaron Burnett (77-77-86=240), and Logan Martin (81-78-81=240). Phillips finished second while Burnett and Martin tied for seventh overall.

Williams, Phillips, Martin, and Burnett all made the first-ever G-MAC All-Conference team.

[Men's Golf] Williams Leads Trevecca to Day One Lead @ G-MAC Championships

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The Trevecca men's golf team is solidly in first place after the first two rounds of the 2013 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships. Trevecca shot a two round total of 300–300=600 to lead by 30 strokes over second place Cedarville University. Trevecca junior Stephen Williams leads the field with a three-under 69-72 = 141 following Monday's play.

There are three teams and 15 individuals competing for the first-ever G-MAC Golf Championship at the Hermitage Golf Course – The Presidents Reserve. The course is playing to a par of 72 over 6935 yards. The 2013 Championships are a 54-hole event. The teams played 36-holes on Monday with another 18 to come on Tuesday morning.

Trevecca shot a 300 team score to lead by 15 strokes after round one play in the morning. Individually Trojans Stephen Williams (69) and Tyler Phillips (74) locked down the top two spots. Williams three-under par round was the only red number of the morning session. In fourth place overall is TNU's Aaron Burnett (77). Austin Dillard (80) and Logan Martin (81) round out the first round Trevecca scores.

"I'm proud of the way we come out and played the first two rounds," Wilson said. " We had some very good individual performances today in Stephen and Tyler."

Cedarville University (315) and Urbana University (329) were second and third respectively. Michael Dague of Urbana was third while Jacob Forsythe of Cedarville rounded out the top five.

Following the second round on Monday afternoon, Trevecca's lead had grown to 30 strokes. Following Stephen Williams (69-72=141) for Trevecca were Tyler Phillips (74-73=147), Aaron Burnett (77-77=154), and Logan Martin (81-78=159. Phillips is in second place overall while Aaron Burnett is fifth. Martin is in the top 10, in eighth place.

"We are very close to reaching our goal and we will get out there tomorrow and do our best," Wilson said.

Jacob Forsythe of Cedarville and Michael Dague of Urbana round out the top five as they are tied for third at 143.

Unfortunately Trevecca's Austin Dillard, who shot an opening round 80, was disqualified after he and Jordan Glick of Cedarville mistakenly teed off from the wrong tee box marker on the 18th hole.

The teams will tee off at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday for a final round of 18 to decide the 2013 Championships.

[Men's Golf] Final Trevecca Results in from TSU Big Blue Invitational

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene men's golf team played three steady rounds at the Big Blue Intercollegiate, an event full of NCAA Division 1 teams. Trevecca junior Stephen Williams finished in a tie for 21st with a even par tournament: 67-72-77=216. As a team Trevecca finished 13th with a team scorecard of (296-301-304) 901.

The 54-hole tournament was played on the Presidents Reserve course at the Hermitage Golf Course. The course played to a par of 72 over 7,157-yards. The final round was played under cloudy skies and 74 degrees with a wind coming at 9-12 mph.

The 2013 team champion is Southern Illinois with a (283-284-280) 847. Southern Illinois produced the individual champion in Jake Erickson. Erickson won in a scorecard playoff. Erickson and Colin McCarty, SIU-Edwardsville, both finished at 10-under
Erickson shot a 68 in final round; McCarty 69.

Following Williams were: Logan Martin and Tyler Phillips who carded a 75-76-73=224 and 76-72-76=224 respectively. Aaron Burnett (78-81-78=237) and Austin Dillard (78-81-84=243) rounded out the team scores for Trevecca. Aaron Gaddis competed as an individual and recorded a 76-83-83=242.

Williams finished tied for fourth with 13 birdies over the 54-hole event.

UP NEXT: The Trojans host the 2013 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships at the Hermitage Golf Course on April 21-22 in Old Hickory, Tenn.

[Men's Golf] Williams Fifth for Trevecca @ TSU Big Blue

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - The Trevecca men's golf team is 13th after two rounds of the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate. Trevecca junior Stephen Williams is tied for fifth after shooting a team-best 67-72=139 in the first two rounds. Williams was tied for second following the first round with a five-under 67 on the opening 18 holes on Monday.

The 54-hole tournament is being played on the Presidents Reserve course at the Hermitage Golf Course. The course is playing to a par of 72 over 7,157-yards and features zoysia fairways and bent grass greens. The teams played under agreeable conditions with a high of 80 degrees and 10-13 mph winds.

"I'm really proud of the way we came out playing today," head coach Robbie Wilson said. "The first round was one of our most consistent from start to finish that we have had all year."

"Stephen Williams really had it going the first two rounds. He was making putts from all over the greens and he looked really comfortable being in that position."

Williams shot a five-under-par 69 in the first round and even-par 72 in the second round to lead the Trojans effort.

Wilson continued, "In the second round Tyler Phillips played well and we are proud of him. He has worked hard rebuilding his swing this season and he is starting to see what he can do once he gets things rolling. He was a few bad tee shots and some missed putts from going low today. All we needed in the second round was for Austin and/or Aaron Burnett to finish their rounds and we would've had a very solid day. We looked forward to playing even better tomorrow."

Phillips carded a 76 in the morning round and an even-par 72 in the afternoon. He is tied for 47th overall with a two-round total of 148. Logan Martin follows with a 75-76=151. Dillard and Burnett shot identical rounds of 78-81=159.

Aaron Gaddis, playing as an individual for Trevecca, finished with a 76-83=159.

Williams is tied for second in the tournament in par-4 scoring at four-under-par. Williams is tied for third in the tournament with 10 birdies in 36 holes. Martin is one of nine tournament golfers with an eagle during the first 36 holes.

Tomorrow's final round starts at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

[Men's Golf] Trevecca's Dillard named NCCAA Men's Golfer of the Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Austin Dillard was named the National Christian College Athletic Association Men's Golfer of the Week after his outstanding performance at the Trevecca Spring Invitational last week in Old Hickory.

The sophomore from Nashville finished in a tie for seventh place after shooting a 153 (76-77) during the two rounds. Personally, it was Dillard's best shooting performance of the year, his third overall event.

The Trojan golf team will look to close out its regular season with a strong finish at the Tennessee State Big Blue Classic April 15-16 at the Hermitage Golf Course.

[Men's Golf] Trevecca's Stephan Williams G-MAC Golfer of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Trevecca Nazarene University junior Stephen Williams has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Month for men's golf. Williams, the first men's golfer other than Cedarville's Jacob Forsythe to earn the honor, earned the award for his play since the beginning of the spring season.

Williams, who played in three very different tournaments, highlighted his spring season so far with his 17th place finish at the home Trevecca Spring Invitational, which the Trojans led after round one, but finished 3rd overall out of 10 teams.

Williams posted a two-day total of 156 after shooting a 76 in the first round and an 80 in the second. At the Lee Spring Invitational at the beginning of March, the Trojans finished sixth as Williams fired a 77 in the 18-hole outing.

A week later, TNU participated in the three round Grove Page Classic (UT-Martin). Williams led the way with a 26th place finish out of 75 golfers with a three-day total of 231. His best round was day two in which he posted a 75, which was tied for 18th best score on day two.

[Men's Golf] Trojans Third at Trevecca Spring Invitational

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene men's golf team lost their lead at the 4th annual Trevecca Spring Invitational and finished third behind Union University and Tennessee Wesleyan College at the Old Hickory Country Club. Trevecca recorded rounds of 307 and 313 for a two-day total of 620. The Trojans led after the first round.

The 36-hole stroke play event was played to a par of 71 over 6,617 yards. Conditions improved on day two, but remained less than favorable. There are 10 teams and 68 golfers competing in this year's event.

Sophomore Austin Dillard led the Trojans with a 76-77=153, which was good enough for seventh overall. Aaron Burnett (+12; 78-76=154) finished in a tie for 11th. Stephen Williams (+14; 76-80=156), Logan Martin (+15; 77-80=157), and Tyler Phillips (+29; 85-86=171) rounded out Trevecca's participants.

Aaron Gaddis represented Trevecca's lone individual performer. He finished 14th overall with a =13 77-78=155.

Jorge Benitez of Davenport finished eight-over with identical rounds of 75 for a tournament best 150. Joining him on the all-invitational team were Brett Barry of Union University (+10; 77-75=152), Josh Wheeler of Tennessee Wesleyan (+10; 74- 78=152), Kody Alexander of Union University (+10; 74-78=152), Nate Scheibe of Taylor University (+10 76-76=152), and Alex Cox of Lipscomb University (+10; 77-75=152).

Union (311-304) defeated TWC (309-306) in a team playoff, both teams finished the tournament with a 615 team score. They were second and their respectively after day one play.

Trevecca's next event is the Tennessee State University Big Blue Classic at the Hermitage Golf Course April 15-16.

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene men's golf team leads the 4th annual Trevecca Spring Invitational by two shots over Tennessee Wesleyan College at the Old Hickory Country Club after the first round of play.

The 36-hole stroke play is being played on a course with a par of 71 totaling 6,617 yards. Conditions were tough during the first round as strong winds and snow flurries found its way to the course on a 37-degree day. The feel like temperature was 25-27 at times. There are 10 teams and 68 golfers competiting in this year's event.

Junior Stephen Williams and sophomore Austin Dillard led the Trojans in the first round. Both players are in a tie for fifth place after shooting a five-over 76. Logan Martin is in a tie for 10th shooting six-over par. Aaron Burnett (+7; 78) is tied for 14th while Tyler Phillips rounded out Trevecca's performances with an 85 (+14) good for a tie in 38th place.

Aaron Gaddis represents Trevecca's lone individual performer. He is tied with Lipscomb's Alex Cox with a 77 (+6) good for a tie for 10th.

Tennessee Wesleyan's Josh Wheeler (+3; 74) and Union's Kody Alexander (+3; 74) are in a tie for first place after the first round.

TWC is two shots back (309) of Trevecca while Union is four shots behind (311).

[Men's Golf] Trojans finish 11th at UT-Martin Grover Paige Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene men's golf team finished in 11th place Tuesday afternoon at the UT-Martin Grover Paige Classic.

Of the 13 teams that competed, 10 of them are NCAA Division I schools. The 54-hole stroke play tournament is being played on a course with a par of 72 totaling 6,776 yards. There were 75 individual participants.

For the third consecutive round, junior Stephen Williams led the Trojans. He shot a six-over 78 on the final day to finish +15 with a score of 231, good for a tie for 26th place. Logan Martin fired a seven-over 79 in the final round and finished in a tie for 47th. Aaron Burnett ended his final round with nine-over 81 to finish in a tie for 53rd. Rounding out Trevecca's performers were Tyler Phillips (T59th) who shot an 11-over 83 and Aaron Gaddis who was 12-over (84) and finished 72nd.

"We got off to a good start," head coach Robbie Wilson said. "(We) could've had a really solid round but we slipped on the last five holes."

While the Trojans didn't finish as high as they wanted, coach Wilson has seen improvement from his team.

"From my viewpoint, I'm seeing better things from the guys although they aren't translating to the scorecard."

Winning the Classic was host school Tennessee-Martin. They defeated Union University by three strokes, 890-893. Coming in third was Murray State who finished with an 898 total.

Murray State's Patrick Newcomb took home medalist honors after shooting four-under par (74-67-71; 212).

The Trojans will return to action March 25-26 as they host the Trevecca Spring Invitational at the Old Hickory Country Club.

[Men's Golf] Trojans jump to 10th at UT-Martin Grover Paige Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – After two rounds of the UT-Martin Grover Paige Classic, the Trevecca men's golf team sits in 10th place.

The 54-hole stroke play tournament is being played on a course with a par of 72 totaling 6,776 yards. There are 75 individual participants.

The second round started right after completion of round one due to inclement weather.

After firing a six-over 78 in round one, Stephen Williams improved his score by three strokes to finish with a three-over 75. He is currently in a tie for 25th. Logan Martin and Aaron Burnett each improved as well. Martin was three shots better in round two posting a six-over 78. Burnett shaved five strokes off his first round 83 to finish with a 78, good for a tie for 50th. Tyler Phillips fired an 82 in the second round and is tied for 58th place. Rounding out Trevecca's performers was Aaron Gaddis who sits in a tie for 70th after shooting four strokes better (89-85) in the second round.

Head Coach Robbie Wilson was much more pleased after his players completed the second round.

"The guys played better as a whole in the afternoon round. It wasn't great golf, but as long as we are taking steps forward every round we will eventually meet our goals," Wilson said.

Leading the Classic is Union University. After sitting in fourth place after the first round, Union climbed the board to overtake Lipscomb. The Bulldogs were led by Brett Barry who shot a six-under 66 in round two. He leads the overall field totaling a 140 after the first two rounds. Union holds a four-shot lead (588-to-592) over Lipscomb heading into the final round.

Third round play will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with 18 holes remaining.

[Men's Golf] Trevecca in 11th at UT-Martin Grover Page Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Trevecca men's golf team is in 11th place after the first round of the UT-Martin Grover Paige Classic at the Jackson Country Club. Of the 13 teams competing, 10 of them are NCAA Division I schools. There are 75 individual participants.

The 54-hole stroke play tournament is being played on a course that is playing to a par of 72 totaling 6,776 yards.

Stephen Williams scored the best for the Trojans after the first round. He shot a six-over 78 and is in a tie for 35th place. Logan Martin and Tyler Phillips each shot an 81 and are tied for 51st place. Rounding out Trevecca's performers are Aaron Burnett and Aaron Gaddis. Burnett finished the first round shooting an 83 (+11) and is tied for 59th while Gaddis was 17-over (89) and in 72nd place.

Along with Division I talent competing, rainy weather a day ago caused high scores all around for Trevecca according to head coach Robbie Wilson.

"With the wet conditions, wind and cold, any mistakes were magnified out there. I was happy with the way we started but we didn't finish too well," Wilson said.

"Still, we expect a lot more out of ourselves and we need to have a better second round.

Leading the Classic is Lipscomb University. They combined to shoot a 292 and lead by five strokes over host institution Tennessee-Martin (297).

After the first round, Lipscomb's Blanton Farmer leads the field after shooting a four-under 68.

[Men's Golf] Trevecca finishes 6th at Lee Invitational; Martin named to All-Tournament team

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Due to inclement weather during the second round of the Lee University Spring Invitatioanl, the Trevecca men's golf team's score of 308 after the first round resulted in a sixth place finish. Freshman Logan Martin paced the Trojans with a two-under par 70 and was named to the All-Tournament team.

The field included 78 golfers and 14 teams participating. The course played to a par of 72 over 6659 yards.

Trevecca men's golf coach Robbie Wilson was anxious for his players and the final round.

"We were really excited to get out there and play today. We knew the weather was going to be an issue but the guys played through it. We made it halfway through (the second round), and even though we didn't finish, we didn't feel like this week was a total loss," Wilson said.

Wilson added, "We saw what we needed to work on before we head to the Grover Page Classic at UT-Martin next week (March 11-12).

Martin paced the field with a course-best six birdies along with an eagle. Stephen Williams finished in a tie for 28th after shooting 77 (+5).

The Trevecca scoring: T 3 Logan Martin 35- 35 70; T 28 Stephen Williams 38- 39 77; T 40 Aaron Gaddis 41- 38 79; T 53 Aaron Burnett 42- 40 82; 73 Tyler Phillips 46- 47 93.

Host school Lee won the tournament after posting a total of 288 (+3). Taylor Davis was the top individual scorer after shooting a four-under par 68.

The University of the Cumberlands finished second, just two shots off the lead (290) while Lindsey Wilson College finished third (300), 12 shots back.

The Grover Page Classic will take place at the Jackson (Tenn.) Country Club next week.

[Men's Golf] Phillips Low Trojan @ NCCAA Championships

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Trevecca men's golf team completed play today at the 2012 NCCAA Men's Golf Championships at the Hombre Golf Course. Trevecca finished 18th with matching scores of 325 each day for a total of 650. Tyler Phillips led the Trojans with a 65th place finish after shooting 82-77 159.

There were 18 teams and 96 golfers participating with the top 12 teams advancing to the final round on Wednesday. Oklahoma Christian hold the team lead heading into the finals on Wednesday with a 16-under par (280-280) 560. The individual leader, also from Oklahoma Christian, is Vihelm Bogstrand at six-under (66-72) 138.

Following Phillips for Trevecca were Logan martin (78-85) 163, Stephen Williams (77-87) 164, Aaron Gaddis (88-79) 167, and Aaron Burnett (89-84) 173.

The NCCAA Championship consists of three 18-hole rounds. Each team will play one 18-hole round on Monday and Tuesday. Teams making the cut will play a championship round on Wednesday.

Trevecca will break for the winter and return to play at the Lee University Invitational March 4-5, 2013 in Cleveland, Tenn.

[Men's Golf] Martin Leads Trevecca @ NCCAA Championships

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Trevecca men's golf team is participating in the 2012 NCCAA Men's Golf Championships at the Hombre Golf Course. Trevecca is currently sitting in 17th place after the first round of play on Monday. Stephen Williams and Logan Martin are the top Trojans, shooting a 77 and 78, respectively.

Trevecca shot an opening round 325 on the par-72, 6517-yard course. Vilhelm Bogstrand of Oklahoma Christian is the top individual after carding a six-under par 66 on the opening day.

There are 18 teams and 96 golfers participating. Following Tuesday's round the Championships will be reduced to the top 12 teams. Oklahoma Christian is leading after a day one with a 280. Union University is second with a 290.

Following Williams and Martin are Trevecca's Tyler Phillips (82), Aaron Gaddis (88) and Aaron Burnett (89).

The NCCAA Championship consists of three 18-hole rounds. Each team will play one 18-hole round on Monday and Tuesday. Teams making the cut will play a championship round on Wednesday.
