2009 Men's Soccer Season Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Traditions start with a foundation. In his inaugural season as Trevecca's mMen's sSoccer cCoach Danny Leavy is optimistic to further build that tradition upon the foundation laid by former coach Jeff Carr.

Coming off what was arguably the program's strongest season last year,year; Coach Leavy plans to keep on keeping the pedal pushed to the floor while instilling a new and attractive style of play. Leavy helped ease the transition by retaining holding over goal- keeping coach Michael Frazee, who returns for his fourth season. Gift Ndam, who just finished two years playing for the Trojans, begins his third year with the program and his first as an assistant.

Fifteen players are returning, and with a well balanced team of seniors and underclassmen the Trojans will be able to further stabilize a winning and sportsmanship tradition.

Four seniors, Calvin da Cunha, Philip Walker, Andy McGovern, and Parker Hughes-- will set the pace. Neither Cunha nor McGovern played last season;, however, both are dynamic players. Andrew McGovern has discovered may have an possible additional year of eligibility and could join the team soon. Cunha can play any position on the pitch and is a highly experienced player. Hughes is a leader and had two big goals last season. Walker can be explosive offensively and has good speed.

The junior class is four strong. Josh Forth, Benji Bussell, Fernado Lopez, and Craig Parker can provide experience, skill, and secondary leadership to the senior class.

Hayden Coffman tips a strong sophomore class in goal. The eight- member class also includes John Sheets, Darragh Bugter, Alija Turkovic, Jordan Enix, Yaabari Ndam, and Jonathan Guardarrama. Coffman, Sheets, Bugter, Turkovic, Enix, and Guardarrama were key contributors as freshman and look to should continue the momentum from the past year.

Local products Drew Lewis and Mark Michael join Alex Stagman (Florida), Richard Thibaut Djapni (Cameroon), Dibran Rexhelpi (Albania), and Javier Delgados (Mexico) to make up the 2009 freshman class.

Coach Leavy has stated, "From top to bottom the conference is very well rounded and the non-conference games will be extremely challenging."

Coach Leavy has set the bar high, and coming off a strong finish from the previous year, the team has set the goal of winning the TranSouth is as its the team's goal.
