NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Halley Wiggins of Franklin (Tenn.) High School has signed an
athletic scholarship to play volleyball at Trevecca Nazarene University
in Nashville, Tenn.
Wiggins,
a 5'9" senior setter at Franklin, is the daughter of Brad and Anita
Wiggins. The 2005 District All-Tournament team honoree was All-District
twice. She will begin play for Trojans Head Coach Scott Jones in the
fall of 2008.
Jones,
already excited about his returning players, is gaining in eagerness
for the coming season with the signing of Wiggins. "We are excited to
have Halley join our program as she will be an outstanding
representative for the University, the team, and the community."
Wiggins
plays for Impact Volleyball Club, one of the top programs in the
southern United States. She has been trained by some of the best
juniors' coaches in Tennessee, including Jay Golsteyn, Maggie Tucker,
Jeff Frazier, and Warne Riker.
"I
have watched Halley continue to grow and develop into one of the top
setters in the State of Tennessee" says Jones. "She has excellent
skills with state championship experience and was named all-district in
2006 and 2007."
Wiggins
is strong in the classroom, maintaining a 3.3 GPA, and has been listed
on the academic honor roll and intends to major in the medical field.
Coach Jones states, "We look for complete student-athletes for our
program, and Halley continues our tradition of having team members who
excel in both the classroom and on the court."
On
the court her ability has even more room to grow according to Jones:
"She has the ability to play at a very high level, and we look forward
to developing her talent even further."
Trevecca reached the regional semi-finals in 2007 and hopes to contend for a birth to nationals in 2008.
"Next
year is looking great!" says Jones. "We have an excellent group of
returning players and continue to sign great players like Halley."
"Halley will join us for pre-season training in August, and we look forward to her contributions with great enthusiasm!"
