Trevecca women's soccer coach Brett Armstrong is pleased to announce the signing of Spring Hill High School's Heather Halstead for the 2008-2009 season.
"We're real excited about her," Armstrong said. "Soccer is getting better and better in the Spring Hill/Columbia area. I'm happy to be making connections and bringing some of those girls to Trevecca."
Halstead was a key player for a team that won consecutive District 11 and Region 6-A/AA championships. Spring Hill posted a 29-7-1 record over the past two seasons highlighted by the Lady Raiders' first state tournament appearance in 2006.
"I'm excited for [Halstead and teammate Drueann Weir]," said Spring Hill coach Windy Sanders. "I'm really glad that they decided to go to Trevecca together."
Armstrong felt like Halstead's winning pedigree will be important to his Trojan program.
Trevecca Nazarene's coach also liked Halstead's scoring prowess that saw her score 136 goals, while dishing out 61 assists during her high school career.
"Scoring goals is one of those instincts you either have or you don't," Armstrong said. "Heather definitely has that extra push to get the ball into the net."
During her two years in Spring Hill, after moving there from North Carolina, Halstead twice earned all-state, all-region and all-district honors.
"I imagine she'll start off up top for us scoring goals," Armstrong said. "She may end up being a playmaker for us as well."
