NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Trevecca women's basketball coach Gary Van Atta is pleased to announce
the Trojans' first signing for the 2009-2010 season, Destiny Dishman.
Dishman, a 6'0" senior from Crossville, Tennessee, is a versatile player
who can play a guard, wing, or post position on the floor.
Dishman has been named to the all-District first team for each of the past two
seasons, including being the District MVP last season. She was named the MVP of
the Union County Christmas Tournament as a sophomore, and she also earned
all-Region honors twice. She has led Stone Memorial High School to the State
Tournament Elite Eight each of the past two years, and last season she was
named to two different All-State teams, including being named to the Tennessee
Sports Writers Association (Associated Press) All-State First Team. This Fall she will become the
first female basketball player inducted to the Cumberland County
Sports Hall of Fame.
As a junior, she averaged 13 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, with
32 assists, 53 steals and 66 block shots. She scored 24 points and grabbed 15
rebounds in Stone Memorials' first round TSSAA Class AA
State Tournament game last season.
Dishman also played for Van Atta this past summer on the Tennessee Elite AAU
team that earned a silver medal at the Junior Olympics in Detroit, Mich.
"We are extremely excited to have Destiny become part of the Trevecca
family. She's a great person as well as an excellent student. She's a talented
and skilled basketball player that will have a tremendous career in the Purple
and White. Destiny has post size with guard skills. She can drill the three and
score in the post. It's her versatility that makes her an invaluable addition to
our team."
